Communities and Local Government Committee - Supporting People oral evidence session 6 July
July 7, 2009
The Communities and Local Government Committee announced its decision to launch an inquiry into the Government’s “Supporting People” programme in March 2009. The Committee’s inquiry will consider the extent to which the Government has, so far, delivered on the commitments it made in Independence and Opportunity: Our Strategy for Supporting People. The Committee will also consider the implications of the removal of the ring-fence, asking what needs to be done to ensure that the successes of the programme so far are not lost, or services cut, following the change; and what opportunities this change in the funding mechanism will offer for innovation and improvement in the delivery of housing-related support services. The the fourth oral evidence session took place on
Monday 6 July 2009 with Martin Cheeseman, Supporting People Lead, Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS), Cllr Dr Gareth Barnard, Vice-Chair, LGA Community Wellbeing Board, Sue Talbot, Service Inspector and Peter West, Head of Commissioner Methods, Care Quality Commission (CQC) and Ian Austin MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Communities and Local Government in attendance.
Written evidence for this inquiry can be viewed on the Committee website here.
