Working party formed to consult on Exempt Accommodation rule

February 23, 2010

Following the previous work surrounding the Turnbull Judgment and general issues on the Housing Benefit – Supported ‘Exempt’ Accommodation rules, the DWP has established a small working party to inform the policy development. The working group will be chaired by Cathy Payne from the DWP and will comprise of representatives from local authorities, other Government Departments (CLG and DH) and representatives of the main customer groups affected.

Alan Johnson, Managing Director of Progress Care Housing Association and ASL Board Member, will sit on the working party as a representative of the Registered Social Landlord (Supported Housing) sector and the ASL.

Further experts may be called upon if needed but representation will be by invitation only.  A draft Terms of Reference is below, which will be agreed at the first meeting, together with a note of the aims of the review.

The group is likely to meet on a monthly basis (although this may need to be more or less frequent as the policy ideas develop) and the first meeting is likely to be held in mid / end of March.

If you would like to submit any items for discussion for the working party that have not already been raised through the survey, please contact Alan Johnson at ajohnson@progressgroup.org.uk

The results of the survey and other related downloads can be viewed by logging in the ASL members area. (Members only)
